He married Zofia Nasierowska, who was a noted portrait photographer.

“…I remember when we met Janusz Majewski on May 21, 2022 in Warsaw. I said that I wanted to make a portrait of him that would look at every person who looked at it. He smiled and asked what should he do? I asked him to look intensely into the camera…” – Czesław Czapliński.
“…I took up literature to be in harmony with my own nature. In interwar literature, I look for the past, roots, what was taken from me, I reach for it to soothe the feeling of disinheritance. I was born in Lviv, after the war, at the age of fourteen, I found myself in Krakow. I lost my roots. I realized, of course not immediately, that something had been taken from me. The past, the beauty, the elegance of that era. There were some images in my head that I kept coming back to, some reminiscences that later appeared in films. (…) I wanted to recreate my world and I regained something…” – Janusz Majewski.

„…Jeżeli nie spojrzymy prawdzie w oczy i będziemy się karmić jakąś mitologią, wymyśloną w różnych okresach z różnych politycznych powodów, to nigdy nie staniemy się narodem mentalnie wolnym. Zawsze będziemy pod presją stereotypów…” – Janusz Majewski.
„…Literaturą zająłem się, żeby być w zgodzie z własną naturą. W literaturze międzywojennej szukam przeszłości, korzeni, tego, co mi zabrano, sięgam do niej, aby ukoić uczucie wydziedziczenia. Urodziłem się we Lwowie, po wojnie jako czternastolatek znalazłem się w Krakowie. Straciłem swoje korzenie. Zorientowałem się, oczywiście nie od razu, że coś mi odebrano. Przeszłość, piękno, elegancję tamtej epoki. W głowie zostały jakieś obrazki, do których wracałem, jakieś reminiscencje, które potem pojawiały się w filmach. (…) Chciałem ten swój świat odtworzyć i coś odzyskałem…” – Janusz Majewski.
