Jane Fonda (ur. 21 grudnia 1937 r. w Nowym Jorku) – aktorka i producentka filmowa.

Dzieciństwo miała niezwykle trudne, jej matka popełniła samobójstwo w szpitalu psychiatrycznym, kiedy Jane miała 12 lat. Gdy wyrzucono ją z kolejnej szkoły, postanowiła uczyć się malarstwa i wyjechała do Paryża. Po powrocie do Stanów Zjednoczonych rozpoczęła karierę jako modelka, a 1954 r. znalazła się nawet na okładce „Vogue’a”. W 1958 zapisała się na kursy dramatyczne do Actors Studio Lee Strasburgera i zagrała na Broadwayu w inscenizacji „Tall Story”.

Wkrótce zadebiutowała jako aktorka – zagrała w spektaklu teatru Omaha Community Theatre, „Dziewczyna z prowincji”. Kilka lat później Jane rozpoczęła kursy aktorstwa dramatycznego. Zaczęła pojawiać się na srebrnym ekranie, zagrała w filmach: „Tall Story” (1960), „A Walk on the Wild Side” (1962). Rola w „In The Cool of the Day” (1963) przyniosła Jane Fondzie nagrodę dla najgorszej aktorki. Po premierze wyjechała do Paryża, gdzie wyszła za mąż za Rogera Vadima, z którym jednak rozstała się po kilku latach i powróciła do Stanów Zjednoczonych. Potem związała się z politykiem, przeciwnikiem wojny w Wietnamie, Tomem Haydenem. Grę aktorską Jane Fondy doceniono w 1970 r., kiedy to dostała nominację do Oscara za rolę w filmie „Czyż nie dobija się koni?”. Nagrodę przyniosła jej rola w „Klute” (1972). Kolejną statuetkę dostała dzięki roli w dramacie wojennym z 1978 r., „Powrót do domu”. Oprócz Oscarów wyróżniano ją „Złotym Globem”, „Emmy”, a także statuetką „Brytyjskiej Akademii Filmowej” i zainteresowania publiczności rosło a ona powoli zaczęła wycofywać się z kina.

W latach 90. Fonda rozstała się z drugim mężem i ponownie wyszła za mąż – za twórcę CNN, Teda Turnera.

Jane Fonda znana jest także jako gwiazda fitness – wydała serię kaset i płyt z ułożonymi przez siebie ćwiczeniami. Przez niemal całą dekadę układała własne ćwiczenia aerobiku. Od czasu zakończenia wojny w Wietnamie oraz odejścia Nixona od władzy walczyła o prawa Indian i przeciwko dyskryminacji czarnoskórych. Co ciekawe popierała „Solidarność” i odwiedziła Polskę w 1987.

W 2001 rozstała się z trzecim mężem. W 2005 ukazała się w Stanach Zjednoczonych jej autobiografia „My Life So Far”, zagrała też w komedii „Sposób na teściową”. 

W 2006 została twarzą koncernu kosmetycznego „L’Oreal”. 

W 2018 wystąpiła w filmie dokumentalnym „Jane Fonda w pięciu odsłonach”. Od 2019 aktywna w ruchu „Fire Drill Fridays”, nagłaśniającym kwestie związane z katastrofą klimatyczną.

Przeglądając stare media odkryłem, że w 1970 r. Jane Fonda została aresztowana i oskarżono ją o przemyt narkotyków. Po gruntownym sprawdzeniu okazało się, że posiadała witaminy. 

Kiedy w październiku 1985 r. potwierdziłem spotkania z Jane Fondą na Broadwayu w Nowym Jorku, była zaangażowana w fitness, wychodziły jej płyty, książki „Ćwicz jak Jane Fonda”. Dobrze, że zwykle mam zwyczaj przychodzić wcześniej i w niedalekiej odległości czekać, aby się nie spóźnić i wejść dokładnie o wyznaczonym czasie. Co w Nowym Jorku jest obowiązujące. Zobaczyłem, że przed wejściem, gromadzą się grupki weteranów w mundurach z wojny w Wietnamie. Postanowiłem wejść wcześniej, dobrze zrobiłem, gdyż później zaczeli ostro demonstrować, blokując wejście z transparentami przeciwko Fondzie. Do dziś jej tego nie wybaczono, a ona za to zdjęcie przeprasza i przyznaje, że to był jej błąd.

Fonda, w czasie wojny amerykańsko-wietnamskiej w 1972 r., nie kryła swoich pacyfistycznych i antywojennych przekonań. Dała się sfotografować w czasie wizyty u żołnierzy z Wietnamu Północnego, którzy walczyli wtedy z Amerykanami. Fonda siedzi w hełmie w pobliżu działa przeciwlotniczego, używanego do zestrzeliwania amerykańskich samolotów. Po latach oświadczyła, że „Boli mnie to i zabiorę to ze sobą do grobu, że popełniłam wtedy wielki, wielki błąd. Wielu ludzi pomyślało, że jestem przeciwko naszym żołnierzom. Kiedy tylko mogę staram się wytłumaczyć weteranom wojennym, co się wtedy naprawdę stało”.

Fonda weszła z ochroną tylnym wejściem, na Broadwayu były ostre protesty, a my robiliśmy zdjęcia.

Muszę powiedzieć, że jak weszła Fonda, to czuło się, że to jest gwiazda pierwszej wielkości, przeszły mi ciarki po plecach. Widziałem, że co jakiś czas spoglądała w okno i twarz jej posępniała, widząc demonstracje przeciwko niej. Ale na zdjęciach tego nie widać i o to chodziło.
